Traditional Leaders Urges Civility Regarding Incident Involving Obasanjo

In response to Friday’s incident in Iseyin involving former President Olusegun Obasanjo and some traditional rulers, Oba Olushola Alao, the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State, has called for decorum in discussing the matter.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining calm when reacting to the situation.

Oba Olusola Alao, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, highlighted that the incident is an internal matter of the State Council of Obas and will be thoroughly reviewed at their upcoming meeting.

He acknowledged the varied reactions and concerns expressed by people about the incident, especially those who hold the traditional institution in high regard. He assured that their silence since Friday is not a sign of cowardice but rather a responsible approach.

The traditional ruler stressed the importance of decorum in line with the Omoluwabi ethos, a principle highly respected in Yoruba culture. He expressed a commitment to resolving the matter through dialogue with the governor at their next meeting and emphasized the unity and peaceful coexistence of Yoruba land.

Oba Olushola Alao concluded by stating that any conflicting information from other sources should be disregarded. The incident involving Obasanjo had revolved around accusations of disrespect by the traditional rulers towards Governor Makinde, and it has sparked reactions across Yoruba-speaking states and beyond.
