Tinubu Announces Suspension of EFCC Chairman, Bawa

President Bola Tinubu has taken the decision to suspend AbdulRasheed Bawa, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), indefinitely.

The suspension comes in response to serious allegations of abuse of office that have been leveled against him.

AbdulRasheed Bawa has been instructed to promptly transfer the responsibilities of his position to the Director of Operations within the Commission. The announcement of Bawa’s suspension was made through a concise statement issued on Wednesday by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

The decision to suspend Bawa was primarily based on the weighty allegations of abuse of office that have been brought against him.

“Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement read.
