The Supreme Court has decided to postpone the judgment in the appeal brought forward by Saidu Umar, who is contesting the election of Ahmad Aliyu as the governor of Sokoto State.

A panel of five judges led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun adjourned the case for judgment after both parties had presented their arguments and submitted their legal documents.

In his appeal, Mr. Umar is challenging the decision of the tribunal and the court of appeal, which both upheld the election of Governor Umar and his deputy, Idris Gobir. The basis of the challenge is the allegation that they forged the certificates they presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in order to qualify for the election.
