Rivers State Police Officer Demoted For Slapping and Beating A Civilian (Video)

The Nigeria police force has demoted an officer following his role in a public assault in Rivers. This event unfolded on April 9 in the Emouha region of the state, with a video showing a police officer in the standard black attire assaulting a man in white.

After the video went viral, the police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, announced that those officers implicated in the incident were detained and called to the police headquarters. In a subsequent statement, Adejobi confirmed that Inspector Adejoh Siaka was demoted to sergeant due to his actions. Additionally, Sergeant Ndiwa Kpuebari received a strong reprimand for his involvement. Meanwhile, Inspector Friday Obaka, who wasn’t at the scene, was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Adejobi has since appealed to the public, asking them to be cautious of the old video’s recirculation, which is being presented as a new incident. He emphasised the importance of verifying information before sharing and pointed out attempts to tarnish the Force’s image. In a related development on July 9, the police service commission demoted a police commissioner and took disciplinary actions against several other officers.
