Obasanjo responds to Tinubu video, refutes meeting President at Alake’s birthday

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has refuted claims that he met with President Bola Tinubu at the 80th birthday reception of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, which took place on Thursday.

A video circulating on the TikTok social media platform falsely claimed that Tinubu and Obasanjo had a meeting during the occasion.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo denounced the fake post and the misrepresentation of a banter conversation that occurred between the two during Tinubu’s visit to his house last year before the general elections this year. Obasanjo clarified that he had not seen Bola Tinubu since his campaign visit to his house in Abeokuta.

To provide context to the video’s content, during Tinubu’s previous visit to Obasanjo’s house, he found the former President playing his favorite traditional game (ayo). In jest, Tinubu expressed his surprise at seeing Obasanjo playing ‘ayo’ at that time of the day. In response, Obasanjo humorously stated, “when I don’t have a job. If you are ready to give me a job, I am ready to do it.” Afterward, Tinubu wished Obasanjo a long life as they proceeded into the sitting room with others.

Obasanjo clarified that he is not seeking employment or working with anyone, as the fake news suggests, and advised those looking to collaborate with Bola Tinubu to explore options beyond him.
