Nnamdi Kanu Will Always Receive Fair Trial and Due Process – Ejimakor

Aloy Ejimakor, the main legal representative for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has affirmed that Kanu will always receive a trial that upholds the principles of fair hearing.

This assurance was given following a routine visit by Ejimakor and his legal team to Kanu at the Department of State facility in Abuja.

Taking to X to share an update, Ejimakor stated: “UPDATE: Myself & the #LegalTeam have concluded today’s visitation with Onyendu MAZI NNAMDI KANU. To cut long story short, #MNK will never be subjected to any trial that lacks the basic guarantee of fair hearing. That is the irreducible minimum and it’s non-negotiable. Yes.”

This declaration comes shortly after an Abuja Federal High Court denied bail to the IPOB leader.

However, Justice Binta Nyako ordered an expedited hearing of the terrorism charges, totaling seven counts, brought against Kanu by the Federal Government.

In April 2022, Nyako had struck out eight of the original 15 counts in the charge. The remaining seven counts were also dismissed by the Court of Appeal on October 13, 2022, which resulted in Kanu’s release being ordered by the judge.

Nevertheless, in December 2023, the Supreme Court overturned the Appeal Court’s decision and returned the case to the Federal High Court for the continuation of the trial.
