Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has given his approval for allocating five percent of employment opportunities to Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the state.

This decision was communicated through a statement issued by Ms Abigail Waya, the Head of Civil Service (HoCS) in the state, on Wednesday.

Waya explained that this approval was made in line with the Sule-led administration’s commitment to providing equal opportunities to all residents of the state and recognizing the importance of inclusivity.

Furthermore, the HoCS conveyed that the governor had instructed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to reserve five percent of their recruitment exercises for PWDs. However, it was clarified that PWDs seeking these positions must possess the requisite academic qualifications for the vacancies available.

“This directive is in accordance with the domesticated Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Act of the state signed in 2018.

“It is aimed at ensuring that individuals with disabilities are given fair access to government employment.

“Accordingly, I am pleased to convey the directive of the governor to MDAs who are expected to implement it with utmost dedication and commitment,” Vistanaij Media quoted Waya as saying.
