The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Edo Zone, successfully rescued more than 100 victims originating from Edo and Delta states.

Mr. Nduka Nwanwenne, the Zonal Commander of NAPTIP, shared this information in Benin on Friday while providing business starter packs to three survivors of human trafficking.

Nwanwenne revealed that the agency is currently prosecuting over 64 traffickers across various courts in the two states.

As part of their efforts to reintegrate survivors into society and help them earn a livelihood, empowerment plays a crucial role, according to NAPTIP. The three survivors were selected to receive sewing machines, enabling them to engage in sewing activities and provide crucial evidence in court against their traffickers.

The empowerment of these three individuals is particularly significant as two of them have children, while the third survivor is currently pregnant.

Nwanwenne further highlighted that the survivors had been trafficked to countries such as Germany, Russia, and Mali, where they endured exploitation at the hands of their traffickers for several years.

“We firmly believe that by providing them with a means of livelihood, they will be less vulnerable to trafficking,” stated Nwanwenne, emphasizing the importance of empowering survivors.
