The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has expressed appreciation for the fruitful outcomes achieved through its collaboration with partners in the fight against human trafficking.

Speaking at the International Conference on Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (TIPSOM) in Abuja, Prof. Fatima Waziri-Azi, the Director-General of NAPTIP, praised the collective efforts of partners in addressing this grave issue. The conference was organized with the support of the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policy (FIIAPP).

While speaking on behalf of the Director-General, Mr. Hassan Tahir, the Director of Legal and Prosecution at NAPTIP, highlighted the significant progress made in the rescue and rehabilitation of human trafficking victims due to the collaborative initiatives with partners.

Over the past two decades, NAPTIP has successfully rescued and rehabilitated 21,181 victims, and the agency has also achieved the prosecution and conviction of 639 individuals involved in human trafficking.

Tahir emphasized that in 2022, NAPTIP secured an impressive 80 convictions, the highest number of convictions since its establishment. In 2023, the agency has already obtained 65 convictions, demonstrating its commitment to combatting human trafficking. Notably, these convictions include a high-profile trafficker who orchestrated the trafficking of 12 girls to Belgium, as well as a complicit government official involved in facilitating foreign travels that promote prostitution.

The collaboration between NAPTIP and its partners has played a vital role in achieving these milestones and combating human trafficking effectively.
