Mr Ibu’s Daughter and Son Arrested by Police for Embezzling N55m from His Donation, Exposing Their Shameful Actions

Jasmine Okafor, the adopted daughter of ailing actor Mr Ibu, and one of his sons, Daniel Onyeabuchi, have been apprehended by the Nigerian police for their alleged involvement in a fraud scheme amounting to N55 million.

The news was revealed by the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCID), Alagbo, in a statement issued on Thursday, January 25th, 2024.

According to the statement, the FCID received a petition from Mr Ibu’s wife, who alerted them to the duo’s plans to defraud her husband while he was incapacitated. Stella, who was in charge of managing the funds, fell victim to manipulation by Jasmine and Daniel. They gained possession of Mr Ibu’s phone and hacked into his bank accounts.

By reinstalling the mobile banking applications on Daniel’s phone and erasing the original applications from Mr Ibu’s phone, they assumed full control over his banking activities.

Further investigation uncovered incriminating WhatsApp messages exchanged between Jasmine and Daniel, outlining their conspiracy and criminal intentions. It was also revealed that the two had orchestrated a fake marriage at the Ikoyi Magistrate Registry, with the aim of fleeing to the UK to settle with their ill-gotten gains. They had even applied for a UK visa in advance of their planned escape.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that they had already spent N5 million of the embezzled funds, while the remaining balance of N50 million was recovered.

Both Jasmine and Daniel were granted bail in the amount of N15 million, with two sureties each, and the case has been adjourned until March 11th, 2024.
