Akin Rotimi, the Spokesman of the House of Representatives, became emotional on Tuesday while presenting a motion on the killing of two traditional rulers in Ekiti State.
Rotimi moved the motion of urgent public importance, but his emotions got the better of him, and he broke down in tears.
According to Rotimi, the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Olatunji Samuel Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola, were both killed by unknown gunmen on Monday. In addition to the traditional rulers, a commercial driver was also killed between Ayedun and Ayebode by armed bandits. Furthermore, a school bus carrying students was hijacked in Emure Ekiti on the same day, and their whereabouts are still unknown.
In response to these tragic events, the House passed resolutions urging the Chief of Army Staff to redeploy the military to the outpost along the Oke-Ako area to enhance security and prevent a recurrence of such heinous acts. The Inspector General of Police, the Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other security agencies were also called upon to deploy additional personnel to Ekiti North 1 and ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.
To honor the deceased, the House observed a minute of silence.
