Mary Njoku Weighs In on Yul Edochie and May’s Marital Drama: Should a Mother Have a Different Name from Her Underage Children?

Mary Remmy Njoku, a prominent Nollywood actress and film producer, has indirectly commented on the ongoing marital dispute involving her colleague, Yul Edochie, and his estranged wife.

According to a report from Vistanaij Media, Yul had publicly demanded that his estranged wife drop his surname and return her bride price.

In response, Mary expressed her opinion that a mother should not be forced to have a different name from her underage children, unless she is also allowed to change their names.

She highlighted the fact that one cannot establish a reputation over many years only to be asked to change it because someone does not want to continue the marriage.

Mary reiterated that changing one’s name should be optional when a marriage ends, and she pointed out that some wives have played a significant role in bringing recognition to their family names.

“If marriage ends, change of name should be optional Biko. Someone cannot build a Name for many years and he asked to change it just because Oga no wan do again.

A mother shouldn’t be compelled to have a different name from her underaged kids. Except she is allowed to change their names too.

Besides, some wives have been responsible for putting their surnames on the map. Asking them to drop it is like stealing her copyright. Except she wants to”.
