Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, paid a visit to the family of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Moshood Olalekan Balogun, one week after his demise.

Oba Balogun, the 42nd Olubadan, passed away on March 14, 2024, at the age of 81, at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan. He was laid to rest last Friday, following Islamic traditions.

Governor Makinde, as the chief mourner, visited the family at the Alarere private residence of the late monarch on Thursday.

During the visit, the governor expressed his admiration for the late Olubadan, highlighting his significant role in preserving the traditional system.

“When Baba was admitted to the hospital, I maintained communication with the doctors, urging them to do their best to keep him alive. I believe they provided him with the utmost care. However, we can only propose; God ultimately decides,” Governor Makinde shared. 

He continued, “Many may not be aware of the depth of our relationship. It extended beyond politics. But now is not the time for mourning; it is a time to celebrate Baba’s life and his contributions to Ibadanland, the traditional institution, and Oyo State.”

The governor acknowledged that Oba Balogun’s passing occurred at a time when he had brought peace and stability to the traditional institution in Ibadanland. He expressed his hopes for continued stability but recognized that human plans are subject to divine intervention.

Governor Makinde also mentioned that the state government had approved funds for the Fidau prayers for the late Oba and assured that appropriate arrangements would be made for a state burial when the time is right.
