Pedestrians and motorists in Lagos were filled with panic on Saturday when a fully loaded gas tanker suddenly burst into flames at Doyin Bus Stop in the Orile-Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State.

According to Mr. David Aloy, an eyewitness, the incident occurred around 8:30 pm, and emergency teams were swiftly trying to extinguish the raging fire.

Aloy explained that the gas tanker had broken down in the area, and while attempts were being made to fix it, a sudden fire erupted, engulfing the vehicle. Passers-by scrambled in various directions for safety, with some assisting in tackling the blaze before the state fire and rescue service arrived at the scene.

Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident. Fortunately, he reported that there were no casualties during the tragic event.

Oke-Osanyintolu stated, “The Agency received a distress call around 08:30 pm regarding a fire outbreak at the above-mentioned location which prompted the immediate activation of the emergency response team and the Agency’s fire service to the scene of the incident.”

“Eyewitnesses disclosed that a loaded gas tanker was gutted by fire. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Fortunately, the incident involved no loss of life or casualties.”

“Collaborative efforts to put out the inferno are ongoing by the agency’s response team, including Lagos State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, and the Police.”

Efforts were still underway to contain the ongoing fire, and the exact cause remained uncertain at the time of reporting.
