The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has issued a warning stating that sexual harassment is considered a corrupt practice and can result in a prison sentence of up to seven years.

During a One Day Sensitization Workshop on Sexual Harassment in Tertiary Institutions held in Abuja, Mr. Clifford Oparaodu, the Secretary of the Commission, emphasized the importance of victims understanding their rights and seeking justice in cases of sexual harassment.

He expressed concern over the prevalence of sexual enjoyment being treated as “illegal tender” in many institutions.

Oparaodu stated, “Sexual harassment is a form of corruption. It deviates from the expected norms when an official utilizes their office or position to demand, receive, obtain, or attempt to obtain any form of sexual gratification in exchange for performing their duties.”

He further emphasized that official duties should be carried out with integrity, conscience, and diligence, without any expectation of unlawful benefits.
