Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state has taken a decisive step by proscribing all ethnic vigilante groups and similar organisations operating within the state. This decision comes after a recommendation from the State Security Council, aiming to maintain peace and security.

Through an official Executive Order, the governor has declared these groups, including the Kungiyar Zaman Lafiya Nomad Group, Bassa Vigilante, Eggon Vigilante, and others, as illegal societies. The Executive Order extends its reach to any association, movement, organization, or society connected to these groups, which falsely operate under the guise of vigilante activities. It also encompasses any group that seeks to provide security among ethnic communities in Nasarawa State through the use of weapons.

Governor Sule, acting under the authority conferred by Section 97A of the penal code, highlighted the inherent risks these groups pose to good governance within the state.

As part of the proscription order issued on April 15, the affected groups have been instructed to surrender all weapons and uniforms to the state Commissioner of Police within a two-week period. This measure aims to ensure the restoration of peace and protect the safety of all residents in Nasarawa state.
