Femi Falana, a well-known human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has expressed his views on the N5 billion fuel subsidy removal palliatives provided by the Federal Government.

He considers these measures to be both diversionary and wasteful. Falana shared his perspective during an interview on Channels Television, which was monitored by Vistanaij Media.

During the interview, Falana emphasized that addressing the underlying issue of the dollarization of the country’s economy should be a priority, rather than focusing on palliative measures. He pointed out that it is crucial for figures like Tinubu to direct their attention towards tackling the root cause of the problem.

Furthermore, Falana expressed his concern regarding the decision of the Central Bank of Nigeria to float the Naira on the foreign market. He criticized this move, stating that it was a mistake on the part of the Central Bank and had negative implications for the country’s economic stability. 

“Most of the interventions are temporary, sometimes diversionary, because the major problem is the dollarisation of the economy”, he stated.

It is worth noting that Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State revealed that a sum of £5 billion had been disbursed to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory following the conclusion of the National Economic Council meeting on Thursday.
