Falana calls on DSS to expedite investigation involving Emefiele and Bawa

Renowned lawyer Femi Falana has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to expedite its investigations into the cases involving Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Falana made this appeal during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.

Falana emphasized that if the DSS has evidence of indictment against Emefiele and Bawa, it should proceed to arraign them in court. It should be noted that Emefiele was arrested and subsequently suspended on allegations of terrorism financing, while Bawa was reportedly interrogated by the DSS regarding allegations of abuse of office.

The human rights lawyer highlighted that the prolonged detention of Emefiele and Bawa goes against the principles outlined in the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. He further urged the government to handle their cases in strict accordance with the law, ensuring a fair and transparent process.

“Investigations should be speedily conducted, more so where allegations are made. I do not expect any delay in the investigation of the very serious allegation that has been made,” he stated.
