DSS Disregards Court Order, Reincarcerates Emefiele

Despite the order issued by the Federal High Court in Lagos, the Department of State Services (DSS) has opted to return the suspended Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele, back to custody.

It is worth noting that the court had previously granted bail to Emefiele following his plea of not guilty to two charges relating to the alleged illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo, who granted the bail, ruled that Emefiele should be held in prison until he meets the conditions set for his bail. However, tensions escalated as officials from the secret police and the Nigerian Correctional Services engaged in a physical altercation, disputing over who would be responsible for transferring Emefiele from the court.

After a brief period of contention, officials from the Department of State Services (DSS) ultimately succeeded in taking the suspended governor of the apex bank away from the court.
