Ayodeji Richard Makun, also known as AY, is a Nigerian actor, comedian, radio and TV host, writer, producer, director, and brand influencer. In addition, he is the CEO of Corporate World Entertainment. Robert O. Peters directed and produced his debut film, 30 Days in Atlanta. He has also received the honour of being a UN Peace Ambassador.

Early Life and Education

Ayo Makun was born on August 19, 1971, in Warri, Delta State. He originally hails from Ifon, Ose local government in Ondo State. AY is the eldest of his six siblings, two boys, and four girls. One of his brothers, Yomi Makun, known as Yomi Casual, is one of the top fashion designers in Nigeria. He had his primary and secondary school education in Warri, Delta State, before moving to Delta State University, Abraka, Delta State, where he studied Theatre Art and graduated after spending nine years in school.

While he was a student, A.Y. received recognition for being the most stylish student on campus in 1999 and 2000; the best show business promoter in 2001; the most renowned student on campus in 2001; and the recipient of the Jaycee Club Socio-personality Award (2003).

Career

Ayo Makun has always been involved in show business, even as an undergraduate. A.Y. started and hosted many shows, including Miss Delsu, Miss Delta, and many others. He met Alibaba Akporobome, a well-known comedian and actor by chance while performing at one of his concerts, who subsequently became his mentor.

A.Y. began his career by working forAli Baba as his personal assistant and event manager. He developed into a skilled comedian because of his work with Ali Baba, which helped him develop his understanding of human inspiration. The entertainer debuted on Ali Baba’s Fans Club at Victoria Garden City (VGC). Since appearing at an Opa Williams-hosted comedy concert in 2006, he has excelled in his field and become one of Nigeria’s most commercially successful comedians.

He was a guest columnist for Gbenga Adeyinka’s “laff Mattaz” and The Sun Newspaper. The performer authored “A.Y wire.” Additionally, he hosted AY Live on The Morning Drive on Rhythm 93.7FM in Lagos every Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Ayo ‘AY’ Makun also serves as the host and presenter of his annual show, “AY Live,” which is one of the biggest comedy shows in Africa and is typically conducted once a year. It routinely features well-known comics like Bovi, Helen Paul, Seyi Law, Elenu, and many others. Numerous musicians also perform at the live event.

Personal Life

Ayo Makun is the oldest male child out of seven children of Mr and Mrs Makun. He, however, lost his parents to the cold hands of death at a tender age, which made him start fending for his siblings while growing up.

He has been married to Mabel Makun since 2008. The marriage is blessed with a daughter, Michelle Makun. His siblings are also doing significantly well in various Nigerian industries, including Yomi Casual, Lanre Makun, Bimbo Makun-Olukoya, and Morenike Makun.
