Richard Eyimofe Evans Mofe-Damijo is a Nigerian Actor, Writer, Producer, Lawyer, and Former Journalist who was born on July 6, 1961. In 2009, he also served as the Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism. At the 12th African Movie Academy Awards in 2016, he was given a Lifetime Achievement Award. In the Nigerian film industry, he is legendary.

Early Life and Education

Richard Mofe-Damijo was born on July 6, 1961, in the Aladja community of Delta State’s Udu Kingdom. He went to Anglican Grammar School and Midwest College in Warri and was active in the Drama Club there. In order to further his education, he enrolled at the University of Benin, where he studied Theatre Arts. Mofe-Damijo returned to the University of Lagos in 1997 to pursue a legal education. He graduated in 2004 and was admitted to the Nigerian bar in 2005.

Career

Richard got his start in acting by participating in his high school’s theatre club. Later, he began writing articles for The Guardian, Metro Magazine, and Concord Newspapers. In his 30s, he created and sold “Mister,” the nation’s first all-gloss magazine for men. After graduating from college, Mofe appeared on “Ripples,” a television soap opera. Additionally, he developed and produced “Out of Bounds,” his debut movie, which earned him a writer/producer credit. However, he became more well-known as the evil Segun Kadiri in the competing soap opera “Checkmate.”

Mofe-Damijo earned the prize for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the first African Movie Academy Awards in 2005. He and Nigerian journalist Mimi Fawaz co-hosted the 2016 GLO-CAF Awardson January 5, 2017. He received a Black Star Honour at the Rhymes on Da Runway in Gold Coast, Ghana, on December 8, 2021.

The seasoned performer is the founder of White Water Limited, RMD Foundation, and RMD Production.

RMDTV and RMD the actor fall under the RMD Productions umbrella. It is a platform for entertainment that creates original material for broadcast, television, and radio, among other things. In 2008,Emmanuel Uduaghan, the then governor of Delta State, appointed Mofe-Damijo as his special adviser on culture and tourism. From 2009-2015, he served as Delta State’s commissioner for culture and tourism.

Personal Life

In 2000, Richard married television personality Jumobi Adegbesan, who afterwards quit appearing on TV to go into business. He once Married May Ellen-Ezekiel (MEE), a journalist/publisher and talk show host from Nigeria who passed away in 1996. 

He currently has five children. Two of Mofe-Damijo’s children are with his present wife, while three are from his late wife.
