Members of the Anambra State vigilante group have successfully rescued three girls from a baby factory and child trafficking syndicate in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area of the State.

This operation followed a three-month investigation conducted by operatives of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), Orumba South, led by the Chairman of the Council Area, Prince Neville Uchendu.

Prince Uchendu, while handing over the suspect and the rescued girls, explained that his team was able to dismantle the syndicate after a meticulous three-month investigation. He commended the efforts of the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Hon Ify Obinabo, and emphasized that he brought the suspect to her because he was confident she would take immediate action.

Upon receiving the suspect before handing him over to the police, Commissioner Obinabo expressed her joy over the successful outcome of the months-long investigation and stated that the State government was pleased with the development. She encouraged others to follow the example set by the Chairman of Orumba South in making Anambra State a safe and prosperous place to live.

The Commissioner also assured that the apprehended suspect would not escape justice and would face the consequences of his crime in court. During the interrogation, the suspect, Oruchukwu Okoroafor, admitted to being involved in the baby factory business for two years and that the girls found in his house were the first set he had for the business this year.

The suspect further confessed that potential buyers had promised to pay the sum of N300,000 for the unborn children but claimed not to have their contact information. Meanwhile, the girls, aged 14 to 20, who are currently pregnant, clarified that Okoroafor was not responsible for their pregnancies but had offered them shelter at his house until they gave birth.

They also confirmed that the suspect had promised to find employment for them and had offered to give each of them N300,000 once they delivered their babies, an offer they had accepted. The girls, hailing from various locations, were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.
