Abubakar Suleiman has reclaimed his position as the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, alongside his Deputy, Jamilu Dahiru, just a month after their successful re-election in a rerun election.

During the plenary session on Wednesday, the former Speaker, Babayo Mohammed Akuyam, and his Deputy, Ahmed Abdullahi, announced their resignation as part of an agreement among the lawmakers to facilitate Abubakar Suleiman’s return in the event of his re-election.

Akuyam and Abdullahi expressed their gratitude to their colleagues and the assembly staff for their support throughout their tenure.

In his acceptance speech, Suleiman acknowledged the professionalism of the outgoing Speaker and Deputy and pledged to continue enacting effective legislation for the betterment of the people.

It is worth noting that both Abubakar Suleiman and Jamilu Umar Dahiru, representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were re-elected to the House after emerging victorious in the rerun election.

The rerun elections were conducted in four state constituencies following the nullification of the previous election results by the State Election Petitions Tribunal, which was subsequently upheld by the Court of Appeal. The affected 42 polling units in 16 electoral wards across the Bauchi, Ningi, and Katagum local government areas were subjected to the rerun.

As a result, Suleiman emerged as the winner of the Ningi State House Constituency rerun election, while Jamilu Dahiru secured victory in the Bauchi Central Constituency rerun election.
