Yemi Alade, the popular Nigerian Afrobeats artist, delighted fans with her performance at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The event took place on Saturday at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Before the ceremony, Yemi Alade expressed her excitement on her official social media account, celebrating the realization of her dream.

“Since 2016, I have envisioned performing at the stadium for football ceremonies surrounded by hundreds of dancers and people.

“Seven years later, I’m performing at AFCON. It is indeed an honour and a dream come true. It’s just the beginning,” she said.

During the ceremony, Yemi Alade joined other African artists to perform the theme song of the 2023 AFCON, titled ‘Akwaba,’ which means “welcome” in the Baoule language of Ivory Coast.

The performance of the 2023 AFCON anthem featured the renowned Ivorian group, Magic System, and Egyptian singer, Mohamed Ramadan.

Yemi Alade’s captivating presence on the stage, located in the center of the football pitch at the 60,000-capacity stadium, delivered an exhilarating performance for the enthusiastic fans.
