Nigerian sprinter Tobi Amusan smashed the African women’s indoor record in the 60-meter hurdles during the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on Sunday.

Clocking an impressive 7.75 seconds, Amusan surpassed her own previous record of 7.77 seconds set in Kazakhstan earlier this year. Although she finished second in the race, American Tia Jones clinched first place with a new meeting record and the fastest time of the year at 7.72 seconds. Devynne Chalton from the Bahamas closely followed with a time of 7.76 seconds.

This remarkable feat marks Amusan’s second record-breaking performance in 2023, having previously surpassed Gloria Alozie’s 25-year-old African record in January. It’s worth noting that this was also Amusan’s first race of the new athletics season.

Meanwhile, another Nigerian athlete, Favour Ofili, showcased her talent in the women’s 300 meters, securing second place with a time of 35.99 seconds. Gabby Thomas of the US claimed victory with a world-leading time of 35.75 seconds, while Lynna Irby-Jackson, also from the US, secured third place with 36.05 seconds.

Ofili, who holds the African indoor record in the women’s 200 meters established in March 2023, continues to make waves in the world of athletics with her impressive performances.
