A Federal High Court in Ibadan has issued an order for the remand of a woman and two men in relation to their involvement in the Bodija explosion that occurred on January 16 in Ibadan.

Ramatu Camara, aged 47, Ganiu Malik, aged 20, and Abubakar Samasa, aged 64, were charged by the police with conspiracy, use of weapons of mass destruction, stockpiling of radioactive materials, and dispersal of biological weapons. However, they pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Justice E.U. Akpan directed that the accused individuals be remanded in the Agodi correctional centre and scheduled the hearing for their bail applications on April 11.

The police prosecutor, Michael Ojeah, informed the court that Camara, Malik, and Samasa were facing five charges. Ojeah stated that the defendants, along with others at large, committed the crime around 7:30 p.m. on January 16 at Aderinola of Dejo-Oyelese Street, Adeyi Avenue, Old Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to the prosecution, the defendants stored radioactive materials inside a building, which resulted in an explosion causing the deaths of a 65-year-old woman named Bolanle Badmus and 13 others.

The prosecutor expressed readiness to present his case, but the defense counsel, Mr. Adeola Adebayo, requested a short adjournment to file necessary applications.

The prosecutor further stated that the offense violated the provisions of Sections 26, 42 (A) and (B), 43(1) (A), and (2) (C) 1 (A) 58 (1) (A) of the Terrorism, Prohibition, and Prevention Act 2022.
