The Witcher season 2 racked up 2.2 billion viewership minutes during its first week of release on the Netflix streaming service back in December, so it makes sense that Netflix is diving right into getting season 3 into production. The streamer has confirmed that The Witcher season 3 is now being filmed – and even more, they have unveiled a synopsis for the next season!

Here’s what we can expect to see in The Witcher season 3:

As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.”

Inspired by a series of novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher is an

epic tale of fate and family — the story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.

CBR.com shares that “season 3 will predominately adapt the events of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel, Time of Contempt, the second novel in the main Witcher saga.”

Henry Cavill stars as Geralt of Rivia, with Freya Allan as Princess Cirilla of Cintra, and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg.

In addition to the core The Witcher series, Netflix has released an animated feature called The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, and prequel series called The Witcher: Blood Origin is also coming our way.
