Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has issued a stern warning that individuals who commit acts of violence in the name of any tribe will be regarded as lawbreakers and will face legal consequences. The governor’s statement came in response to recent attacks in the southern parts of the state, as he emphasized his administration’s zero tolerance for violence and ethnic unrest.

Through a statement released by his Special Adviser Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello, Governor Kefas condemned all forms of criminality within the state. He assured that his administration would take decisive action against criminals and criminal activities, regardless of their location, citing the equipped security agencies responsible for maintaining law and order.

Governor Kefas emphasized that peaceful coexistence among tribes is achievable through honesty and mutual respect. He highlighted the need for tribes to seek peaceful resolutions through dialogue mechanisms, justice departments, community leaders, and elected representatives, rather than resorting to vigilante justice.

“Criminals who commit killings in the name of any tribe will face legal consequences as violators of the law,” stated Kefas. He emphasized the importance of utilising existing avenues for conflict resolution and warned that those who employ violent means under the guise of seeking justice for their tribes will be identified and held accountable.

Governor Kefas highlighted his collaboration with top-level security authorities to support the state’s security efforts. He stressed that his administration continues to work closely with local authorities, particularly traditional rulers and local government chairmen, to address the situation.

Rejecting the idea of appointing caretakers, Governor Kefas expressed his commitment to holding elections and ensuring accountability. He urged the elected chairmen to be responsible for maintaining peace in their respective domains and encouraged them to work closely with traditional authorities. The governor also assured support to these officials by providing funding, vehicles, and other resources to enhance community security.
