Soyinka explains why he chose not to endorse any candidate for the 2023 elections

Prof. Wole Soyinka, a Nobel laureate, has provided an explanation for why he chose not to endorse any candidate in the 2023 elections. During an interview on Channels Television’s Roadmap 2023 on Monday, Soyinka referred to the elections as an unedifying exercise.

He had been bombarded with appalling narratives prior to and after the elections, and even the minimal restraint that was previously expected from seasoned politicians had been completely disregarded. Soyinka, who had been away, stated that he was aware of what was happening at home but chose not to comment on the electoral process. He emphasized that the nation was moving towards an unplanned situation where the existing mould would be broken. Soyinka stated that he believed in what he referred to as the Fashola Dictum, which stated that elections should be like festivals, but the 2023 elections were anything but festive.
