Bulama Bukarti, a security expert, has expressed concerns over the lack of clarity surrounding the release of the abducted schoolchildren from Kuriga in Kaduna State.

During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Bukarti emphasized that Nigerians deserve to know the details of how the children, who were kidnapped on March 7, were eventually released.

He stressed the importance of the government providing explanations to the public in order to dispel any rumors and address concerns.

“I have been investigating the circumstances surrounding their release, including whether any arrests were made and the terms of the release or the method of rescue, but I have not found any information on this matter,” Bukarti stated.

“As Nigerians, we have the right to know how our government is ensuring our security, how it is utilizing our resources, and how it is dealing with criminal and terrorist elements among us. By law and as citizens, we have the right to be informed so that we can have confidence in our country,” he added.

Earlier this month, 137 schoolchildren were kidnapped from their school in Kuriga by bandits. They were later rescued in Zamfara State after two weeks of captivity, through the joint efforts of the military and local authorities.

Despite the announcement of their release by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, no specific details were provided on the rescue operation, leading to rumors suggesting that a ransom was paid.

However, both the Federal Government and the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, have denied the ransom payment, attributing the successful rescue to the coordinated efforts of security agencies in the country.
