Pochettino’s Message to Upset Chelsea Fans Post Wolves Defeat

As reported by Metro, Mauricio Pochettino offered an apology to the fans following Chelsea’s unexpected 4-2 loss to Wolves on Sunday but urged them to support the team despite the disappointing result.

Despite Cole Palmer initially putting Chelsea in the lead, the game took an unexpected turn, with Wolves securing a victory through Matheus Cunha’s hat-trick and an own goal from Axel Disasi. Although Thiago Silva scored a late goal, discontent from fans was evident, with boos at both halftime and fulltime, particularly targeting Raheem Sterling.

During the match, supporters began chanting Roman Abramovich’s name, placing blame on Todd Boehly’s management. With Chelsea currently 15 points away from the top four in the Premier League and calls for Pochettino’s dismissal, the manager addressed the criticism in his post-match press conference.

Pochettino acknowledged the disappointment, stating, “What we can say, apologise to the fans.” He emphasized the gap between perception and reality, acknowledging that Chelsea may not currently meet the expected standards. Pochettino urged fans to understand the challenges faced by the team and asked for continued support.

He said, “To be in this business, in this type of club, you need to be strong. We have the energy and the capacity to move on. Yes, of course, it’s not a nice moment, but it’s always about moving on and convincing the players and pushing them to never give up, to be brave and recover from this kind of situation.”

Expressing the importance of fan support, Pochettino added, “The players need to feel the confidence, they need to believe again to compete again. The players want to deliver a very good show. Of course, they feel the pressure from the fans in the 90 minutes. It’s easy to be sitting and watching the players play but when the stress arrives, sometimes it is not easy. Right now, we need to help them recover from the defeat.”
