Senate Majority Leader, Micheal Opeyemi Bamidele, has provided clarification regarding the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the rule of law rather than succumbing to emotional influences.

This commitment was evident in the judiciary’s affirmation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the victor of the presidential election held on February 25, 2023.

Before entering the realm of active politics, Bamidele was a legal practitioner, and during the pivotal hearings of the two primary petitions, he played a prominent role as the star witness on behalf of Tinubu and the All Progressive Congress, APC.

In a statement released on Thursday, Bamidele extended an appeal to the petitioners, urging them to acknowledge the tribunal’s verdict and collaborate with President Tinubu in the pursuit of the “Renewed Hope Agenda” for the benefit of the Nigerian populace. He underscored that the era of politics has concluded, and the time for governance has begun. 

“I commend the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, PEPT, for upholding the rule of law over emotions.

“The verdict of the Justices has once again reaffirmed that Nigerians overwhelmingly voted for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the February 25, presidential election. 

“I also congratulate President Tinubu over affirmation of his victory by the Tribunal. In the interest of our beloved country, I, therefore, urge the petitioners to join hands with Tinubu’s administration to.deliver his “Renewed Hope Agenda ” to Nigerians. Politics is over , it is now time for governance,” he said.

On Wednesday, a tribunal consisting of five members, presided over by Justice Haruna Tsammani, affirmed the legitimacy of President Tinubu’s election.
