With deep regret that we announce the passing of Oba Lekan Balogun, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland. The revered monarch breathed his last at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.

Hailing from the Ali-Iwo compound in the present Ibadan North East local government area, Oba Balogun transcended to the spiritual realm shortly after being admitted to the health facility.

Prior to his ascension to the throne in 2022, the late Olubadan had a distinguished career as an academic and politician. He served as a lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria and later represented Oyo Central Senatorial District from 1999 to 2003.

With a doctorate in philosophy, Oba Balogun assumed the prestigious position of Olubadan on 11th March 2022, succeeding the late Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, who passed away on 2nd January 2022.
