The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded to recent allegations made by the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing them as a desperate display of tactics.

In a statement signed by Sunday Bisi, the party chairman, and obtained by Vistanaij Media on Wednesday, the PDP expressed its viewpoint:

“Based on the reactions and behavior of the state APC, it is evident that Governor Adeleke has surpassed the opposition. Their strategy of resorting to propaganda and deliberate dissemination of misinformation has significantly diminished their approval rating to below 10 percent, while Governor Adeleke’s popularity remains at a super high level.”

The statement continued, “The opposition must acknowledge that Governor Adeleke has outperformed their records from 2018 to 2022, despite being near mid-term. Within a year and a half in office, Governor Adeleke has accomplished what the previous government failed to achieve in four years. During this time, the current administration has initiated substantial developments in education, healthcare, water supply, infrastructure, and workers’ welfare.”

The PDP further criticized the opposition for pointing fingers at Governor Adeleke, highlighting their own failure to pay half-salary debts and pension arrears while in office. They praised Governor Adeleke for prioritising the clearance of these debts and improving the living conditions of workers and pensioners in the state.

The Osun APC, in a separate statement signed by chairman Tajudeen Lawal, had accused Governor Adeleke of displaying a nonchalant attitude towards state workers. They criticised him for attending Juju music maestro Ebenezer Obey’s 82nd birthday party while civil servants and pensioners were awaiting their wage awards for March.

In response, Lawal stated, “While there is nothing wrong with a governor honoring an illustrious Nigerian like Chief Ebenezer Obey, the timing was highly inappropriate for a mediocre governor who has neglected his responsibilities at home, despite increased federal allocation to the state.”

Lawal further questioned Governor Adeleke’s actions, citing his alleged failure to account for N39.5 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and other revenues meant for the welfare of the people.

The statement concluded, “Adeleke’s public display of singing and dancing at the Sheraton Hotel is an executive show of shame that has tarnished the reputation of Osun State in the eyes of the global public. How can a governor who cannot properly account for billions of naira engage in such frivolous behavior?”
