Ooni urges National Assembly to assign constitutional roles to traditional rulers in tackling insecurity

During the 2023 Exercise Haski Hiyu Lecture at the Armed Forces Command And Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna, Oba Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, advocated for traditional rulers to be given constitutional roles in order to address the security challenges plaguing the country.

The Ooni of Ife stated that traditional rulers are best placed to work with the government on security matters since they are closest to the people.

He argued that traditional rulers were more relevant during the pre-independence and post-independence constitutional democracy periods and urged that they be empowered to tackle emerging security challenges.
