The Ogun House of Assembly has entered the discussion surrounding the management of local government funds within the state.

The Chairman of Ijebu-East, Wale Adedayo, had raised allegations against Governor Dapo Abiodun, asserting that he had been redirecting federal allocations meant for the 20 local governments since assuming office.

In response, Governor Abiodun refuted the claims, countering that he had been supplementing the funds received by the local governments from the federation account to enable them to fulfill their financial commitments.

On Thursday, the Ogun Assembly summoned both the State Accountant General and all members of the Joint Account Allocations Committee to appear before the Assembly regarding the spending of local government funds. The Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, extended the invitation during the session in Abeokuta today. He clarified that the purpose of this invitation was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the events taking place within the local governments. The intention is to provide the people of Ogun State with a comprehensive overview of the situation.

The Speaker further mentioned that the forthcoming meeting would allow the Assembly to gain insights and subsequently determine any necessary measures that need to be taken.

“We have the power to investigate what’s happening in our state and then do the needful,” Oluomo stated.

He appealed to those concerned to maintain law, peace and order, particularly in Ijebu East local government where I heard that protests are ongoing. Everyone should calm down and allow us to do our job.” 

A statement from the Assembly’s media quoted Oluomo as declaring, “I hereby invite the Accountant-General of the State and all members of the Joint Account Allocations Committee to appear before the house on Friday by 1pm.”
