Comrade Joe Ajaero, the National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), expressed his optimism that the negotiation for a new minimum wage between the Federal Government and organized labor would be concluded before March of this year.

During a telephone interview on Thursday, Ajaero revealed that the Federal Government had requested the organized labor to provide their names to the newly formed minimum wage committee. The list had been submitted to the government last year, and once the committee is constituted, negotiations between the union and government can commence.

With the current minimum wage set to expire in March, Ajaero expressed hope that the negotiation for a new minimum wage would be finalized before that deadline.

Regarding the wage award by the Federal Government to Nigerian workers, Ajaero mentioned that only one month’s payment had been made thus far. However, he anticipated that the remaining payments would be released to the workers by the end of January this year.
