Former Education Minister, Oby Ezekwesili, voiced her distress on Friday regarding the alarming number of killings occurring throughout Nigeria.

Ezekwesili expressed deep sorrow over the fact that Nigeria has transformed into a vast killing field and mass graves, where innocent children, youth, women, and men are tragically losing their lives.

In her post on X, the former minister highlighted the ongoing battle for Nigeria’s soul.

According to Ezekwesili: “There is an intense struggle for the soul of Nigeria, a country that has become a massive killing field and is now overwhelmed with mass graves drenched in the blood of innocent victims – children, youth, women, and men – who have been brutally murdered, assaulted, or abducted without any repercussions for the perpetrators.”

She further emphasized that every well-meaning Nigerian, regardless of ethnicity, religion, economic status, or political affiliation, recognises that the Nigeria they once knew has vanished.

Ezekwesili called for a collective effort to reach a tipping point where Nigerians can compel a legally mandated National Conversation. This conversation would be instrumental in determining the value placed on human life and the principles that will uphold, preserve, and dignify a New Nigeria and its people.

Drawing from history, Ezekwesili noted that countries begin to decline when human life loses its worth.

Nigeria currently finds itself in such a precarious situation, but Ezekwesili believes that through collective determination, they can confront the challenges that have hindered the realization of the country’s immense potential. By doing so, they have the power to change the course of their troubled history.
