The Nigerian Federal Government has officially announced that Tuesday, 9th April, and Wednesday, 10th April 2024, will be observed as public holidays to mark the festive occasion of Eid al-Fitr. The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as conveyed in a statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Aishetu Ndayako.

In addition to announcing the public holidays, the Federal Government extended congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for successfully completing the holy month of Ramadan. The minister emphasized the importance of unity among Muslim faithful and encouraged them to embody and practice virtues such as kindness, love, tolerance, peace, good neighborliness, and compassion, as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).

Dr. Tunji-Ojo’s declaration also urged all Nigerians to continue fostering a spirit of unity, as it plays a vital role in improving and achieving peace and harmony within the country. The statement concluded with the minister extending warm wishes for a joyful Eid al-Fitr celebration to the entire Muslim Ummah, accompanied by prayers for the peace, blessings, and favor of Allah upon everyone and the nation as a whole.

It is worth noting that Muslims in Nigeria commenced their Ramadan fasting on 11th March 2024.
