The Federal Government and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), another group of 147 irregular Nigerian migrants stranded in Libya were successfully repatriated on Tuesday.

Ambassador Kabiru Musa, the Charge d’Affaires En Titre of the Nigerian Mission in Libya, shared the news in a statement. He stated that the evacuees departed from Tripoli International Airport on a chartered flight, UZ 189, and were expected to arrive at Lagos’ Murtala Mohammed International Airport later in the evening.

The group of evacuees consisted of 78 males, 55 females, 13 children, and one infant. Ambassador Musa emphasized the commitment of the Federal Government, with support from the IOM, to continue the evacuation exercise for stranded Nigerians who express their willingness to return home under the Voluntary Humanitarian Repatriation (VHR) programme.

He expressed gratitude to the Libyan authorities for their consistent support in ensuring the success of these repatriation exercises. Ambassador Musa also highlighted the positive impact of the regular repatriation exercise, demonstrating the willingness of many Nigerians to return home and contribute to the development of the nation.

The safe return of these stranded migrants reflects the government’s dedication to providing a better life for all its citizens, aligning with the administration’s “renewed hope” agenda. The continuous efforts to bring back Nigerians facing challenges abroad are aimed at ensuring their well-being and enabling them to actively participate in the country’s progress.
