The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has donated 100 hectares of land to the Nigeria Peace Corps (NPC) for the construction of a South-West Zonal Training School. The monarch made this announcement during a familiarization visit by the Commandant General of NPC, Dr Mustapha Abubakar, at his palace in Ife, Osun State.

Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi stated that the land, located along Ilesa road, Abayagani, Ile-Ife, is his contribution to support the crucial role of the Nigeria Peace Corps in addressing the rising challenges of kidnapping, banditry, and other security threats across the country. He emphasized the importance of creating a safe and peaceful society for all citizens to live in.

The monarch expressed his deep appreciation for being appointed as the grand patron of the corps and assured them of his unwavering support in all areas where his assistance is needed. He stated that his love for the corps prompted his generous donation of land to help establish a training ground for the South-West zone.

The Ooni of Ife’s gesture underscores his commitment to promoting peace and security in Nigeria, and he encouraged the Nigeria Peace Corps to continue their dedicated efforts in safeguarding the well-being of the nation’s citizens.

“I have decided to support you in providing vehicles for easy movement in the zone and also provision of housing for officers and the 100 hectares of land .

“Any other things that you forgot to mention please let me know and I will do such at my level best.”

In his remarks, the Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps (NPC), Dr Mustapha Abubakar, expressed his gratitude to the Ooni of Ife for his unwavering support and show of love towards the corps. He mentioned that the decision to establish the training school in Ife was due to the remarkable efforts and contributions of the people of Osun State in the service of humanity, particularly towards the growth of the corps.

Dr Abubakar also revealed that around 700 officers from across the Southwest region were expected to participate in the passing-out parade at the training school in Osun State. He stated that the purpose of the visit was to further strengthen the ties with the Ooni of Ife, who is considered a major stakeholder in the history of Nigeria, particularly in the area of security.

The Commandant of the NPC also expressed his appreciation to the Governor of Osun State, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, for his interest and support towards the corps in fulfilling its mandate. He further highlighted that the Ooni of Ife was awarded the title of Grand Patron of the corps in recognition of his significant contributions to the empowerment and upliftment of Nigerian youths, among other achievements.
