The Niger State Liquor and Licensing Board has announced its intentions to ban the sale and consumption of alcohol in Suleja, located in the Suleja Local Government Area of the state, starting from January 1, 2024.

Additionally, the board plans to issue relocation letters to beer joints in Minna, the state capital, instructing them to move outside the city and relocate within an eight-kilometer radius of the state’s post office.

Ibrahim Muhammad Bonu, the secretary of the board, made these announcements in Minna. He cautioned board personnel against engaging in illegal activities or soliciting gratification from beer parlour operators, stating that any staff found involved in such actions would face consequences.

Bonu emphasized the need for all vendors to comply with the laws established by the board, which has the authority to regulate the activities of liquor vendors in the state. He specified that Suleja is among the nine local government areas listed in the first schedule of prohibited areas, and the board will ensure strict adherence to the law.
