The government of Niger Republic has officially reopened its border in Konni for operations, just a week after the Nigeria Customs Service reopened the Illela land border between Nigeria and Niger Republic.

According to Nuhu Samaila, a source from Konni in Niger Republic, who provided an update to the press, the border was declared open precisely at 12:00 pm on Friday. He expressed appreciation for the decision made by the country’s leadership, the military junta, for attentively considering the desires of the people and taking action to reopen the border.

“It is truly a commendable effort by the government to have finally taken the necessary steps. We had collectively prayed for the reopening of this border after the Nigeria side was declared open,” he stated.

Samaila further expressed his belief that this move would greatly contribute to the improvement of the economies of both countries by facilitating increased trade activities between Nigeria and Niger Republic.

It is worth noting that last week, on Wednesday, the Nigerian government restored the supply of electricity to the Republic of Niger following President Bola Tinubu’s directive to reopen Nigeria’s land and air borders with the neighboring country. This step further signifies the ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and promote economic cooperation between the two nations.
