The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has implemented new postings within the Nigerian Police Force.

Kenechukwu Onwuemelie has been appointed as the Commissioner of Police for Abia State, assuming responsibility for overseeing the state’s police command. Additionally, Mustapha Bala has been assigned to the Force Headquarters as the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Special Protection Unit. The details of these deployments were communicated in a correspondence issued by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, on Friday night.

Commissioner of Police Onwuemelie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Anambra State University. He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 and has served in various operational, investigative, and administrative roles in different state commands, including Ogun, Imo, the FCT, Plateau, and Kaduna. He has also undergone various tactical and leadership courses both within Nigeria and abroad, including the Policy, Strategy, and Leadership Course at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos, as well as the International Course for Police Officers in China, among others.

Commissioner of Police Bala, on the other hand, is a graduate of Bayero University Kano, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology. He further obtained a Master’s degree in Law and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Like Onwuemelie, he has attended several management and leadership courses within and outside Nigeria. Adejobi emphasizes that the Inspector-General has charged these senior police officers to uphold professionalism and respect for the rights of citizens in their new assignments.

“He equally tasked them to pursue the task of ensuring public safety and security in their areas of responsibility with renewed vigour, while calling on the government and good people of Abia State to lend their support to the new CP, Onwuemelie, in his new post,” he added.
