NCC Chief, Maida, Receives Commendation for Effective and Transparent Leadership

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has received praise for its remarkable progress in the telecommunications sector under the leadership of Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC).

Citizens Watch Africa (CWA) expressed their appreciation for Maida’s initiatives aimed at revitalising the industry and bolstering stakeholder confidence, thus attracting crucial investments in telecoms infrastructure. During a recent media briefing, the group emphasized the significance of transparency and accountability in the NCC’s operations, and commended Maida for his unwavering focus on these vital aspects.

Pastor Dave Ogbole, the convener of Citizens Watch Africa, highlighted the renewed commitment to transparency and accountability exhibited by the NCC leadership, led by Maida. This renewed drive has resulted in improved governance processes within the organisation. Ogbole further emphasized the NCC’s dedication to maintaining a level playing field for all participants in the sector.

The group recognised the positive impact of the NCC’s recent efforts, particularly through stakeholder engagement initiatives that gather and analyse feedback to enhance the sector. Citizens Watch Africa took the opportunity to commend the leadership of the NCC for its unwavering dedication and commitment to fulfilling its core mandate. The NCC’s initiatives have contributed to a steady increase in active voice and internet subscriptions, accompanied by a decrease in teledensity.

The statistics demonstrate the NCC’s success in revamping the sector, with teledensity dropping from 115.63% to 102.30% in September. Broadband penetration also decreased from 45.47% to 40.85% during the same period. However, active voice subscriptions experienced a marginal growth from 220,715,961 to 221,769,883 by September 2023. Additionally, internet subscriptions saw a slight increase from 159,034,717 in August 2023 to 160,171,125 in September 2023.

These positive indicators reflect the NCC’s commitment to revitalising the sector. Citizens Watch Africa commends the exceptional leadership and passion of Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, who has implemented commendable policies to reposition the telecoms industry for optimal productivity.
