According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the average price of a 5kg cylinder of cooking gas decreased from N4,642.27 in April 2023 to N4,360.69 in May 2023.

This information was revealed in the NBS “Cooking Gas Price Watch” report for May 2023. The report highlighted that the May price reflected a 6.07 percent decline compared to the previous month’s figures.

However, when compared to May 2022, the average price showed an increase of 11.20 percent from the N3,921.35 recorded in the same period last year.

Analyzing the data on a state-by-state basis, the report indicated that Bayelsa had the highest average price for a 5kg cylinder of cooking gas, at N5,016.67. Zamfara followed closely at N5,000.00, while Abuja had an average price of N4,900.00.

Conversely, Ondo had the lowest average price at N3,795.83, with Nasarawa and Edo following closely at N3,800.00 and N3,837.14, respectively. These state-specific variations highlight the regional disparities in cooking gas prices across the country.
