Military Intervention Essential for Resolving Security Challenges – Kwankwaso
Musa Kwankwaso, a former Minister of Defence and the presidential candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general elections, expressed confidence in the military’s ability to overcome the current security crisis afflicting the nation, provided they receive the necessary support and motivation.
Kwankwaso made these remarks during a press briefing following the NNPP National Executive Committee meeting held in Abuja.
While acknowledging that addressing the security challenge primarily falls under the responsibility of the federal government, Kwankwaso emphasized the crucial role of Nigerian citizens in supplying vital information to security agencies.
“As a former Minister of Defence and Chief Security Officer of Kano State for eight years, and someone who has gained extensive experience in the political arena, I firmly believe that tackling the security challenge now rests on the shoulders of the federal government.
“We have witnessed states establishing their own security outfits, which sometimes appears amusing. However, given the current situation, the Nigerian military is the institution best equipped to handle these challenges effectively. Anything less than that would not suffice.
“Everyone must collaborate to ensure peace in our country. Many of us who hail from rural areas recall the time when our people could freely go to their farms. Nowadays, people are unable to access their farms due to security threats. They are also being displaced from their villages and towns.
“Our children are being subjected to daily abuse and abduction by criminals and bandits in alarming numbers,” he stated.
Kwankwaso, the national leader of NNPP, expressed confidence that his party possesses the necessary solutions to address the country’s problems and other challenges if given the opportunity by Nigerians.
He emphasized that NNPP remains the only hope for Nigerian citizens, asserting that both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have failed to meet the expectations of the people.
