Mercy Chinwo, a popular gospel singer, recently filed a lawsuit against secular musician Obidiz for using her name and image in a commercialized song. According to the suit, which was dated March 23rd, Mercy Chinwo accused Obidiz of derogatorily using her name and image in a secular music audio and video.
To address the issue, Mercy Chinwo’s lawyers sent a cease and desist letter to Obidiz, demanding that he refrain from using her name and image in promotion of his music. Additionally, they requested that he take down the song which he had published with immediate effect from all musical platforms, as well as the promotional video containing her image and clips from all social media platforms.
The lawyers warned Obidiz that failure to comply with their demands would result in the full machinery of the law being set in motion against him, seeking 2 billion naira in damages. It remains to be seen how Obidiz will respond to the allegations and demands made by Mercy Chinwo’s legal team
