According to a report released on Saturday, January 20, it has been alleged that numerous students from Covenant University, located in Ota, Ogun state, have been admitted to the hospital.

Premium Times reported that the cause of this situation was suspected food poisoning from the meals served at the institution. Multiple sources indicated that the school’s medical centre was overwhelmed with the influx of affected students.

In the meantime, a parent, who requested anonymity out of concern for their child’s potential victimization, confirmed the incident on Saturday. The parent, residing abroad, mentioned that their child was currently recovering and in a relatively stable condition.

The source said: “We have had difficulties reaching our child since we received the news. But earlier today (Saturday), we got through to our child who confirmed being affected by the food poisoning but is now recovering well and is fairly stable”.

However, in a prompt response to these developments, the management of Covenant University issued a statement on Monday, January 22, refuting the reports and asserting that all students were in good health.

“Our students are well, and we are focused on ensuring they are in the right frame of mind to successfully undertake their upcoming examinations. “We request our esteemed parents and guardians to pray along with their wards as they prepare for the forthcoming examinations.”
