Atalanta Confirms Lookman’s Ankle Injury from AFCON 2023

Ademola Lookman, the Super Eagles forward, has suffered a sprained ankle injury, as confirmed by his Italian Serie A club, Atalanta. The injury reportedly occurred during the 2023 AFCON final against Ivory Coast on February 11.

Lookman, a standout player in the Super Eagles squad throughout the tournament, scored three goals and provided an assist. Despite his impressive form, he faced challenges during the final and couldn’t replicate his earlier performances.

Having returned to Italy after the AFCON, Lookman, who made the tournament’s best eleven, joined Atalanta on Wednesday but is expected to miss the upcoming Serie A match against Sassuolo on February 17 due to the injury.

Italian transfer expert Alfredo Pedulla confirmed the setback, highlighting Lookman’s significant contributions to Atalanta before joining the national team for AFCON 2023. The 26-year-old forward had scored seven goals and provided three assists in 23 appearances for Atalanta.

Lookman, formerly of RB Leipzig, joined Atalanta in August 2022 for a transfer fee of €9.20 million.
